Fashion Weekend Davao 2017

Kadayawan is just around the corner, and as a dabawenya, I’m 100% sure it will be a blast! This celebration is not just for parties, float parade and all, what it really highlights is the fact that DAVAO is a place of culture and heritage.

To make this year’s celebration more meaningful as it always been, Abreeza Fashion Forum, happened last August 1st, unveiled three upcoming design-themed events.Β These projects were discussed by Davao Fashion Design Council (DFDC) president Aztec Β Barba and secretary Emi Englis and Kadayawan Festival Director Gatchi Gatchalian.

The design-themed events are set to highlight the cultural contributions of indigenous communities, not just serve as platforms to promote the talents of local and regional fashion designers. This second run of the Fashion Weekend Davao envisioned to be Davao and Mindanao’s premier annual fashion event and lifestyle platform on August 4 to 6 at Abreeza Mall’s Activity Center.

  • August 4th to 6th, the world-renowned Davao furniture and jewelry designer, Ann Pamintuan along with garments by the DFDC, will interpret her works through exhibit.
  • August 5th from 10 am to 5 pm, will be a design summit that will tackle industry professionalism, ethical practices, design education, and style forecasts.
  • On August 6th, 5 pm, a fashion show that will parade garments inspired by the 11 Kadayawan tribes of Davao by members of the DFDC, the Ann Pamintuan-themed pieces displayed at the exhibit, a β€œKadayawan Faces” showcase featuring makeup brand Artistry, and high street fashion from Abreeza Mall’s own luxe brands.

Lastly, the Matigsalug Indigenous Crafts Project Branding Launch was announced to take place at the Mindanao Trade Expo at Abreeza Mall on August 11th. The said project seeks to build a comprehensive crafts livelihood program for the members of the Matigsalug Council of Elders Marilog District Davao City, Inc.
